How can Problem Anger be helped by Counselling?

Counselling can help you get a clear understanding about yourself, your problems and your feelings. It can help you discover different ways of thinking, feeling and behaving. Talking to a counsellor may help you to manage angry feelings which otherwise may lead to:

  • depression or anxiety

  • sleep problems

  • alcohol or drug addictions

  • eating disorders

  • compulsive behaviour e.g. excessive cleaning, overworking

  • self-harm.

It might also affect your:

  • digestion – contributing to the development of heartburn, ulcers, colitis, gastritis or irritable bowel syndrome

  • heart and circulatory system

  • high blood pressure

What about the Counsellor?

  • All COMPASS Counsellors have a professional qualification

  • COMPASS counsellors seek to make no discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, physical disability, politics, religion, sexual orientation, social status, or in any other area.

  • Counsellors are not doctors or psychiatrists so they cannot prescribe medicines or diagnose mental or physical illness.

  • Appointments are with the same counsellor and are normally on the same day and at the same time each week. They usually last for one hour.

  • All counselling within COMPASS is confidential and information will not be given to anyone outside COMPASS without your permission, except in exceptional circumstances. These will be explained to you at your first appointment.

  • COMPASS counsellors work to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice; this can be viewed at: www.bacp.co.uk
